MAKEUP COLOUR MATCHING IN MAYFAIR

Makeup colour matching at Beauty Edit Mayfair is done in person, in daylight, by a makeup artist at 33 Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London W1J 8EN. Your foundation, concealer and lip are matched to your own skin, across the full shade range we carry, and you leave knowing which shade is yours rather than guessing at a counter. A four minute walk from Green Park station.

What is makeup colour matching?

Makeup colour matching is the process of finding the foundation and concealer shade that matches your skin in both depth and undertone. Depth is how light or dark the shade is. Undertone is the colour underneath it, cool, warm, olive or neutral. Most shades that look wrong on the face are the right depth and the wrong undertone, which is why matching from a screen or a swatch on the back of the hand so often fails. At Beauty Edit Mayfair it is done on the face, in daylight, with the range in front of you.

Colour matching for darker skin

Darker skin is where shade ranges most often run out, and where undertone matters most. A range that stops short at the deeper end, or that treats every dark shade as warm, leaves people matched to something close rather than something right. The et al. range we carry was built to be matched across its full depth, and our makeup artist works through it on the face rather than assuming. If you have been wearing a shade that greys, ashes or oxidises by the afternoon, that is an undertone problem and it is fixable.

Questions

Where can I get my makeup colour matched in London?

Beauty Edit Mayfair, 33 Berkeley Street, Mayfair, London W1J 8EN. Colour matching is done in person by a makeup artist, in daylight, across the full shade range carried in store. Call 020 7244 8371 to book.

Do you colour match for darker skin?

Yes. The range is matched across its full depth and, as importantly, across undertone. If your current foundation greys or turns orange through the day, that is undertone rather than depth and it is what the session is for.

How much does a colour match cost?

The Make-Up Session is 45 minutes at £75 and includes a colour match and a personalised look. The Evening Edit is 60 minutes at £115. The Private Masterclass is 90 minutes at £150 and includes a face chart to take home.

Do I have to buy anything?

No. You are welcome to be matched and to take the shade names away with you.

Can I bring my own makeup?

Yes. For a session built around the kit you already own, the Private Masterclass is the one to choose.

Is it worth doing before an event?

Yes, and it is worth doing a few days ahead rather than on the day, so you can wear the match and see how it settles before it matters.
